Bike or Trike Seat Enhancements
Why Wooden Beads? Ceramic Beads are better but more expensive too.
Until you try a seat made of wooden beads, most people do not believe they can be comfortable. Well we can tell you, from my own personal experience (in my VW Jetta), they do work. BeadRiders are only brand out there and like all of the others; they allow air to flow between the rider and the saddle, keeping you dryer and cooler. If you really want proof of the airflow, just use a set of BeadRiders on a cool day, and it won't take long to convince you that cold air is flowing beneath you. If it's cold, you'll get a ice cold butt pretty quick. In the summer, they are very nice to have, also allow for the dispersion of your pressure points over a larger area as well as removing perspiration. As for riding in the rain;
The beads on the seat allows you to stay high and dry, while water drains through the seat below you, instead of pooling underneath you. For a Goldwing GL1800, try a 10"x 12" (25.4cm x 30.5cm) seems to work the best for their seats. For Harleys, I do not know, so drop me a line.
Why Sheepskin Seat Pads?
Sheepskin is a natural product that works like magic. Often used in medical applications to prevent bedsores, it keeps your "buttbones" from burning and is cool in the summer, warm in cold weather, reduces sweating, and keeps the itch factor down. It's easy on - easy off, there are no moving parts, it has a universal fit, it is not affected by rain. A short nap keeps you cool in the summer and warm in the winter!
Eliminates pressure points or "Hot spots" which can cause discomfort! Absorbs Vibration, small bumps and road irregularities!
Why Gel Pads?
Most are made of an advanced Viscoelastic molded gel. Some companies sell a gel pad with a sheepskin pad as well, which is doubly nice.
Whatever you decide to use, a lot depends on your riding distance, styles and how cushiony or a bony butt you have. It's not nice to say, but everyone is different. What works for you may not for someone else. Even your riding posture can make a difference. I suggest you read this very good article and make your own call. Good luck.
